Votação histórica nas Nações Unidas aprova proibição de armas nucleares

As Nações Unidas adotaram nesta sexta  (7) o primeiro tratado legalmente vinculativo de proibição de armas nucleares. O documento foi aprovado com 122 votos a favor, uma abstenção (de Singapura) e um voto contra (da Holanda) e prevê que os países que o ratificaram “nunca sob nenhuma circunstância devem desenvolver, testar, produzir, fabricar, adquirir, possuir ou armazenar armas nucleares ou outros dispositivos explosivos nucleares”. A informação é da ONU News.

O documento também proíbe qualquer transferência ou uso desse tipo de armamento, além da ameaça do uso dessas armas. Antes da adoção, a presidente da conferência das Nações Unidas que negociou o tratado, Elayne Whyte Gomez, destacou o “momento histórico” pela conclusão positiva do primeiro acordo multilateral de desarmamento nuclear em mais de 20 anos.

Elayne, que também é embaixadora da Costa Rica junto à ONU em Genebra disse que essa norma legal era aguardada há 70 anos, desde o uso das bombas atômicas em Hiroshima e Nagasaki, no Japão, final da Segunda Guerra Mundial, em agosto de 1945.

Um total de 141 países participou nas três semanas de negociações do tratado, que preconiza uma proibição total de armas nucleares, liderados pela Áustria, Brasil, México, África do Sul e Nova Zelândia. Nenhum dos nove países do mundo que possuem armas nucleares — Estados Unidos, Rússia, Reino Unido, França, Israel, China, Índia, Paquistão e Coreia do Norte — participou nas negociações.
