A Vale promove uma campanha contra queimadas em diferentes municípios localizados ao longo da Estrada de Ferro Vitória a Minas (EFVM) até o final do mês. A ferrovia, que é responsável por escoar a produção da Vale em Minas Gerais rumo ao Espírito Santo, também opera o único trem de passageiros diário do país que percorre longas distâncias.
Comuns nesta época do ano, quando o tempo geralmente é mais seco, as queimadas podem representar riscos tanto para as operações ferroviárias de carga e passageiros, quanto para as comunidades que vivem nas proximidades da estrada de ferro. Esse tipo de ocorrência pode gerar, também, outros impactos significativos, como destruição da flora e danos à fauna, queda da qualidade do ar, desligamento de redes elétricas, além da maior exposição do solo, o que pode facilitar erosões e deslizamentos nos períodos chuvosos.
A campanha irá contemplar as cidades de Governador Valadares, João Monlevade, Nova Era, Timóteo, Santa Bárbara, Resplendor, Conselheiro Pena, Barão de Cocais e Tumiritinga, em Minas Gerais; e Fundão, Ibiraçu, João Neiva e Colatina, no Espírito Santo. Quem estiver viajando no Trem de Passageiros da Estrada de Ferro Vitória a Minas nesse período também receberá orientações e informações relacionadas à campanha. Cabe destacar que a escolha dos locais se deu em função de um levantamento feito pela Vale sobre os pontos ao longo da ferrovia onde os focos de queimada são recorrentes.
Com a campanha, a Vale pretende contribuir com a disseminação de informações sobre os riscos das queimadas junto às comunidades vizinhas à ferrovia e sobre como é possível evitar esse tipo de ocorrência. Haverá distribuição de material informativo contendo orientações sobre atitudes simples, mas que podem fazer toda a diferença na prevenção de incêndios, como destinar o lixo corretamente, criar aceiros nos terrenos – alternativa que impede a propagação do fogo -, não atear fogo ao lixo doméstico e manter terrenos limpos e livres de material que possa alimentar o fogo, como folhagem seca. A expectativa é que cerca de 5 mil pessoas sejam sensibilizadas durante a campanha.
Sobre a Estrada de Ferro Vitória a Minas
Considerada uma das ferrovias mais produtivas do Brasil e uma das mais modernas do mundo graças aos investimentos em tecnologia e recursos humanos, a Estrada de Ferro Vitória a Minas (EFVM) tem 905 quilômetros de extensão e transporta cerca de 30% de toda carga ferroviária do país. Por ela circulam pelo menos 60 tipos de produtos, como minério de ferro, aço, soja, carvão, calcário, entre outros.
Além de operar no transporte de cargas, pela EFVM passa o único trem de passageiros do Brasil que percorre longas distâncias diariamente. Durante o percurso, o passageiro tem à disposição belas paisagens, história, comodidade e segurança. Com o passar dos anos, as operações da EFVM foram modernizadas para aumentar a eficiência, a capacidade, a produtividade e a segurança, essa última trabalhada pela Vale por meio de ações de conscientização realizadas junto às comunidades situadas ao longo da ferrovia durante todo o ano.
Blitzen educativas em passagens em nível (locais onde há cruzamento entre a ferrovia e as estradas), divulgação de dicas de segurança em rádios e jornais, visitas de autoescolas às áreas da Vale e jogos educativos nas comunidades fazem parte das atividades. Além disso, empregados da mineradora que atuam na operação ferroviária realizam palestras mensais em escolas de primeiro e segundo graus situadas ao longo do trecho com o objetivo de conscientizar crianças, adolescentes e adultos sobre a importância da convivência segura e harmônica com a ferrovia.
