A taxa de desemprego, medida pela Pesquisa Nacional por Amostra de Domicílios (Pnad), do Instituto Brasileiro de Geografia e Estatística (IBGE), ficou em 11,8% no trimestre encerrado em outubro deste ano. A taxa é superior aos 11,6% do trimestre que terminou em julho deste ano e aos 8,9% do trimestre fechado em outubro de 2015.

A população desocupada ficou em 12 milhões de pessoas no trimestre encerrado em outubro deste ano, praticamente o mesmo número do trimestre que acabou em julho de 2016. O contingente de desocupados é, no entanto, 32,7% maior do que em outubro do ano passado, o que significa que há mais 3 milhões de pessoas procurando emprego sem sucesso.

O contingente de pessoas ocupadas chegou a 89,9 milhões de brasileiros, 0,7% a menos (604 mil pessoas) do que em julho de 2016 e 2,6% a menos (1,3 milhão de pessoas) do que em outubro do ano passado.

O número de empregados com carteira assinada no setor privado, estimado em 34 milhões de pessoas, apresentou quedas de 0,9% em relação a julho deste ano (menos 303 mil pessoas) e de 3,7% (menos 1,3 milhão de pessoas).
