Em dez estados e no Distrito Federal os relógios deverão ser atrasados em uma hora. A zero hora de domingo voltará a ser 23 horas de sábado. O horário de verão teve início em outubro de 2016.  Os relógios foram adiantados em uma hora nos estados do Rio Grande do Sul, Santa Catarina, Paraná, São Paulo, Rio de Janeiro, Espírito Santo, Minas Gerais, Goiás, Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, além do DF.

O horário de verão é adotado sempre a partir do terceiro domingo de outubro até o terceiro domingo de fevereiro. O objetivo é aproveitar por mais tempo a claridade do dia e economizar energia elétrica entre o fim da tarde e o início da noite.

A medida foi adotada pela primeira vez no Brasil em 1931. De lá para cá, houve uma inconstância – em vários períodos a mudança não foi determinada. Só em 1985 o horário de verão passou a ser anual – no início, de abrangência naciona
