Tragédia de Mariana: moradores sofrem com depressão e outros problemas de saúde

Há dois anos, a folha do calendário das casas de dois distritos de Mariana e um de Barra Longa, em Minas Gerais, foi virada pela última vez. O dia cinco de novembro de 2015 se eternizou nas paredes das casas que ficaram de pé em Bento Rodrigues, Paracatu e Gesteira. Desde então, a vida dos atingidos pela lama da mineradora Samarco está suspensa – 730 dias depois do rompimento da Barragem de Fundão, ainda se espera pelo reassentamento, pela indenização, pelo rio límpido, cujas ações de reparo, complexas, enfrentam atrasos e obstáculos que desafiam os órgãos envolvidos.

A espera e a mudança brusca de vida se tranformam em depressão nas comunidades. Algumas pessoas não viveram para testemunhar as mudanças. Seus parentes apontam a tristeza como o agente catalisador dos problemas de saúde. São os novos mortos da tragédia de Mariana.

“Meu pai morreu de tristeza”

Enquanto faz arroz na cozinha da casa alugada e mobiliada pela mineradora Samarco, na sede do município de Mariana, em Minas Gerais, Leonídia Gonçalves, de 46 anos, lembra que um dos maiores prazeres do pai, de 67 anos, Alexandre, era tocar moda de viola e jogar baralho todas as noites, no bar de Paracatu de Baixo. As filhas dela, gêmeas, brincavam na rua quando queriam. Todos moravam lado a lado, já que, ao casar, Leonídia construiu sua casa no terreno do pai. Agora, essa é uma lembrança que não se repetirá nem mesmo quando a família for reassentada na nova Paracatu, que deve ser construída como reparação. Alexandre morreu em março deste ano, de infarto.

A agricultora tem a convicção, no entanto, de que a causa verdadeira da morte é a depressão. Seu pai foi diagnosticado e chegou a tomar medicamento para tentar reverter a doença. “A gente era feliz. Tinha de tudo. Hoje, tá todo mundo distante. Lá era todo mundo família, era um na casa do outro, à noite a gente ficava na rua, não tinha perigo de nada. E chegando à cidade agora, a gente se assusta,”, relata, ao falar sobre a mudança de hábitos do meio rural para o urbano.

Quando os 39,2 milhões de metros cúbicos de rejeito avançaram pelo Rio Gualaxo do Norte (afluente do Rio Doce) e chegaram às ruas de Paracatu, um modo de vida foi soterrado. Para abrigar os moradores, a Samarco alugou residências na cidade de Mariana, de acordo com a disponibilidade do mercado, sem que as casas dos familiares ficassem próximas. Os atendidos devem aguardar até que o novo distrito seja construído.

Foi assim que Alexandre e Leonídia viraram moradores de bairros diferentes. O aposentado, transferido de casa mais de uma vez, mudou também de hábitos. Não saía de casa, emagreceu de forma repentina e, hipertenso, passou a adoecer com frequência. Os filhos o levavam ao médico, mas ele não se recuperava. Ficou depressivo. E é das últimas palavras que trocou com a filha que a agricutora tira a argumentação mais forte sobre o motivo de sua morte.

“O fim de semana em que ele morreu, estava aqui comigo. À tardezinha falou: minha filha, eu não quero que vocês briguem. São seis irmãos. E não chora, não. Eu perguntei porque ele tava falando isso. “Eu sei que estou dando amolação para vocês, vocês chegam do trabalho, têm que ir lá para casa”. Eu falei: “Vem morar comigo então, perto das duas meninas”, porque ele era apaixonado por elas. Aí meu irmão levou ele embora. Às 19h30, minha irmã ligou e disse que ele tinha ido para o hospital. Quando cheguei lá, já tava morrendo. A gente culpa é essa lama”. Era dia 5 de março de 2017. No domingo, 5 de novembro, aniversário de dois anos da tragédia de Mariana, ela passará o dia nos escombros de Paracatu para lembrar os oito meses de falecimento do pai.

“Caso não é isolado”

Embora a Comissão de Atingidos da Barragem de Fundão não tenha um levantamento de todas as vítimas, esse caso de depressão e morte pós-desastre, de Alexandre Gonçalves, não é o único. Quando a reportagem pediu para se lembrarem de histórias semelhantes, citaram pessoas – sobretudo idosos – que morreram nos últimos dois anos, normalmente depois de sintomas que os levam a acreditar que a causa foi a tristeza.

Na própria família de Leonídia, há casos de agravamento de doenças que ela atribui à lama. Sua sogra atualmente está internada em Ouro Preto por causa de um problema no coração. Sintomas como medo de sair de casa, tristeza profunda e constante e esquecimento de fatos recentes estão nos relatos da maioria das pessoas ouvidas pela reportagem. Como no caso de Marino D’ângelo Júnior, de 47 anos, morador de Paracatu de Cima e membro da Comissão de Atingidos.

“Fiquei um tempo sem aguentar trabalhar, porque tive depressão. Hoje eu tomo dois antidepressivos, o que aumentou minha glicose. Fiz exame e chegou a dar diabetes, estou esperando para ver se vou ficar mesmo. Mas, antes de tomar esses remédios, eu só chorava”, conta. “Depois do rompimento, a gente tem que aprender a viver de novo. E o pior é que, além de passar por tudo, você tem que lutar para conseguir as coisas”.

Preconceito

Existe ainda o sofrimento causado pelo preconceito. São muitos os relatos de hostilidades sofridas pelos atingidos que foram morar em Mariana. Luzia Nazaré Mota Queiroz, de 52 anos, moradora de Paracatu de Baixo,“vendia sonhos” em uma loja de noivas da cidade de Mariana antes da tragédia. Ela saiu do emprego porque não aguentava mais ouvir comentários de clientes.

“Eu tinha que estar sempre sorridente, alegre. Com o tempo, as pessoas entravam na loja e diziam: ‘eu não aguento mais esse povo falando da barragem’. Tinha uns que diziam que a gente era folgado”. Segundo Luzia, a dona da loja a apoiou, mas ela optou por pedir demissão. “Ou eu vou sofrer alguma coisa, ou a senhora vai sofrer alguma coisa. Ela relutou, mas depois entendeu”, disse.

“Pessoas que moram em Mariana acham que os atingidos se aproveitam da situação. Porque a Samarco é quem move a economia da cidade, é quem gera emprego. Mas a gente não construiu barragem para romper em cima da gente”, argumenta Marino D’ângelo.

O desemprego em Mariana passou de 20%. Há placas na cidade pedindo a volta da Samarco. O prefeito Duarte Júnior (PPS) afirma que 89% da receita do município vêm da mineração e da arrecadação do Imposto sobre Circulação de Mercadorias e Serviços (ICMS), que caiu de R$ 11 milhões para R$ 8 milhões. Ele projeta nova queda, para R$ 6,5 milhões, no próximo ano, quando a Samarco, até hoje com atividade paralisada, zera o pagamento do imposto.

O prefeito respondeu ao questionamento da Agência Brasil sobre o motivo pelo qual essa dependência não foi reduzida antes da tragédia. “Quando assumimos, começamos a pensar em um distrito industrial. Mas, o que realmente acontece é que Mariana sempre foi uma cidade muito rica. Então, era muito mais interessante você receber esse dinheiro que vinha e gastar sem ter que se preocupar. Ninguém nunca se preocupou com a possibilidade de a mineração acabar, então ninguém tomava a primeira atitude. Tivemos que tomar esse tapa na cara”.

Atendimento psicológico

A Fundação Renova, criada para desenvolver as ações de reparação e compensação dos estragos provocados pelo rompimento de Fundão, não dispõe de um levantamento de pessoas atingidas que estão em depressão ou morreram durante esses dois anos, mas pretende fazer um estudo sobre o tema. É o que diz Albanita Roberta de Lima, líder do Programa Saúde de Bem-Estar Social da instituição, financiado pela Samarco e orientado por um Comitê Interfederativo (CIF), composto por órgãos públicos e a sociedade civil.

Albanita argumenta também que existe um serviço disponível aos atingidos para trabalhar com a questão da saúde mental. “Desde o dia do rompimento, já foi disponibilizado um conjunto de profissionais, que vão de médicos a psiquiatras, primeiro contratado pela Samarco e depois pela fundação”, diz. “A gente entende que é um sintoma normal, porque mexemos com a vida dessas pessoas. Elas foram tiradas da sua vida, do seu cotidiano, e isso precisa ser reparado. É preciso lembrar que determinadas pessoas têm mais dificuldade para superar esse, vamos dizer assim, inconveniente que ocorre em sua vida”.

A Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade Federal de Minas Gerais (UFMG) vai desenvolver o projeto Prismma, para pesquisar a situação da saúde mental das famílias atingidas pela tragédia. A equipe estará em Mariana entre os dias 15 e 17 de novembro para aplicar um questionário a 1,2 mil vítimas.

Sofrimento será cobrado na indenização, diz promotor

O promotor do Ministério Público de Minas Gerais, Guilherme Meneghin, atua em ações e acordos extrajudiciais para garantir os direitos dos moradores de Mariana. Ele diz que existe uma complexidade na questão, por não existir a causa de morte por depressão, mas confirma que os casos de sofrimento mental são comuns. Não só pelo trauma que viveram há dois anos, mas pelas consequências de mudança de moradia do meio rural para o urbano, as confusões com o cadastro de atingidos e o atraso na construção dos reassentamentos.

“Tivemos uma audiência na semana pessada, em que metade das pessoas era idosa e não foi contemplada com os auxílios. Várias delas desmaiaram. Saíram chorando da audiência. Quem era contemplado, de emoção. Quem não era, de profundo ultraje”, relata.

A Samarco e suas acionistas Vale e BHP Billiton, além da companhia contratada VogBR e 22 pessoas, entre dirigentes e representantes, já respondem a um processo criminal pela morte das 19 vítimas de 5 de novembro de 2015. A acusação é de homicídio com dolo eventual. A ação é de responsabilidade do Ministério Público Federal.

De acordo com o promotor do MPMG, Guilherme Meneghin, é difícil enquadrar as mortes de atingidos com depressão no contexto criminal, mas é possível atuar na área cível. “Esse sofrimento será cobrado na indenização”.

Até agora, os custos com velório e o enterro do pai de Leonídia foram da família. Segundo ela, nunca receberam uma ligação para manifestar pesar pela morte de Alexandre. Mas Leonídia diz que não quer nada disso. Seu maior desejo é ir embora da cidade. “A única coisa que quero é que eles entreguem minha casa. A de todo mundo. Eles têm que agilizar a compra do terreno. Aqui tem muita família que não está feliz. Eu quero ir embora. A gente era muito feliz”, repete durante a entrevista.
