Parque Nacional da Serra da Capivara: maior sitio arqueológico das Américas, patrimônio da humanidade, em risco por falta de verbas

O Parque Nacional da Serra da Capivara, em São Raimundo Nonato, no Piauí, enfrenta a maior crise desde a sua criação na década de 1970. Sem recursos o parque, que é Patrimônio Cultural da Humanidade pela Organização das Nações Unidas para a Educação (Unesco) e mantido pela Fundação Museu do Homem Americano (Fumdham), demitiu todos os funcionários. Na Serra da Capivara estão mais de 1.200 sítios arqueológicos que sem vigilância poderão ser depredados ou roubados.

Niede_GuidonDiante do quadro de penúria financeira a arqueóloga Niède Guidon, que cuida do Parque desde a criação, comunicou a Unesco que está deixando a presidência da Fundham e que o parque está “aberto” e sem proteção, já que as 28 guaritas de entrada estão sem funcionários.

A arqueóloga disse que nem o estatus de Patrimônio Cultural da Humanidade assegurou a entrada de recursos suficientes. “É lamentável, dediquei a minha vida aqui no parque, mas se o governo federal não reconhecer a importância do local não adianta”, afirmou.

De acordo com a Fundação Museu do Homem Americano (Fumdham), responsável pela manutenção do parque, desde o ano de 2014, os cofres da instituição recebem recursos insuficientes para manter o patrimônio. Nesta terça-feira (16) uma decisão da Justiça federal foi contrária a outra decisão, que havia bloqueado R$ 4 milhões da União para manutenção do parque, em função do ICMBIO não ter assinado a cogestão com a FUMDHAM.

Em junho o ministro do Meio Ambiente, Sarney Filho, prometeu que iria criar um plano de manejo da unidade de conservação, para garantir a manutenção e a preservação do patrimônio histórico, ambiental e cultural. Mas nada aconteceu. Em nota o ministério informou que está enviando, emergencialmente, R$ 1 milhão do orçamento do próprio ministério para o parque.

A crise no Parque da Serra da Capivara afeta fortemente a credibilidade do Brasil em manter seu patrimônio histórico e piora ainda mais o quadro em uma região onde os moradores têm sérias dificuldades de sobrevivência por causa da seca. O parque emprega trabalhadores da região e desenvolve um importante trabalho social com famílias do semiárido piauiense.
