Papa pede ações contra o desemprego, especialmente entre os jovens

papa-repcapO desemprego dos jovens foi a preocupação maior do Papa Francisco na mensagem de fim de ano divulgada neste sábado (31). O papa Francisco advertiu que uma geração está se perdendo diante do desespero, da imigração e da falta de oportunidades.  O papa disse que as portas tinham que ser abertas para que os jovens “pudessem sonhar e lutar por seus sonhos”.

“Nós condenamos nossos jovens a não terem lugar na sociedade, porque os empurramos lentamente para a margem da vida pública, forçando-os a imigrar ou a implorar por empregos que já não existem ou não prometem um futuro”, disse Francisco, de 80 anos, em sua homilia durante uma solenidade na Basílica de São Pedro.

O Brasil tem mais de 12 milhões de desempregados, a maioria jovens. Entre os países da União Européia ele  chega a 18% entre os 28 países que compõe a UE.

Na África, o continente com a população mais jovem do mundo, o desemprego juvenil provavelmente aumentou em 2016 e já estava perto de 30% no norte da África, de acordo com a Organização Internacional do Trabalho.

A pobreza e a falta de oportunidades na África impulsionam a imigração, especialmente para a Europa.  Entre os mais de 181.000 imigrantes que viajaram em barcos –na maioria africanos– e chegaram à Itália em 2016, 25.000 eram menores não acompanhados, o dobro do número observado em 2015.

Ao final da homilia, Francisco atravessou a Praça de São Pedro, parando para apertar as mãos e posar para fotos, enquanto fazia uma breve visita ao presépio em tamanho natural que há no Vaticano.

No dia 1º de janeiro, o papa vai realizar uma missa para marcar o Dia Mundial da Paz.
