O câncer de mama é o mais comum entre as mulheres no mundo e no Brasil. Depois do câncer de pele não melanoma, responde por cerca de 25% dos casos novos a cada ano. Para estimular a detecção precoce da doença e conscientizar a população acontece a campanha Outubro Rosa.
As ações de conscientização visam disseminar o maior volume possível de informações sobre acesso aos serviços de diagnóstico e de tratamento, contribuindo para a redução da mortalidade, além de enfatizar a importância de a mulher conhecer suas mamas e ficar atenta às alterações suspeitas.
O câncer de mama é uma doença causada pela multiplicação de células anormais da mama, que formam um tumor. Há vários tipos de câncer de mama. Alguns tipos têm desenvolvimento rápido enquanto outros são mais lentos.
De acordo com o Instituto Nacional do Câncer (Inca), são esperados 57.960 casos novos de câncer de mama este ano no Brasil. A idade é um dos mais importantes fatores de risco para a doença (cerca de quatro em cada cinco casos ocorrem após os 50 anos). Outros fatores que aumentam o risco da doença são fatores ambientais e comportamentais, Fatores da história reprodutiva e hormonal e Fatores genéticos e hereditários.
Em grande parte dos casos, o câncer de mama quando detectado em fases iniciais há mais chances de tratamento e cura. Todas as mulheres, independentemente da idade, podem conhecer seu corpo para saber o que é e o que não é normal em suas mamas. A maior parte dos cânceres de mama é descoberta pelas próprias mulheres.
Mamografia
Para mulheres entre 50 e 69 anos, a indicação do Ministério da Saúde é que a mamografia de rastreamento seja realizada a cada dois anos. Esse exame pode ajudar a identificar o câncer antes do surgimento dos sintomas.
O Sistema Único de Saúde (SUS) garante a oferta gratuita de exame de mamografia para as mulheres brasileiras em todas as faixas etárias. A recomendação, por parte dos médicos, é que a avaliação seja feita antes dos 35 anos somente em casos específicos.
Sintomas
Durante o autoexame, é possível verificar se há indício de alguns dos sintomas, como presença de caroço (nódulo) fixo, endurecido e, geralmente, indolor; pele da mama avermelhada, retraída ou parecida com casca de laranja; alterações no bico do peito (mamilo); e pequenos nódulos localizados embaixo dos braços (axilas) ou no pescoço.
Outubro Rosa
O movimento popular Outubro Rosa é internacional, começou na década de 1990 para estimular a participação da população no controle do câncer de mama. Anualmente, várias atividades são realizadas com o objetivo de compartilhar informações sobre o câncer de mama, promover a conscientização sobre a doença, proporcionar maior acesso aos serviços de diagnóstico e de tratamento e contribuir para a redução da mortalidade.
