O jornal francês Le Monde noticiou nesta sexta (3) que a justiça francesa encontrou elementos concretos que apontam para corrupção na eleição do Rio de Janeiro para sediar os Jogos Olímpicos de 2016. Segundo o periódico, um empresário brasileiro, próximo ao ex-governador Sérgio Cabral e que teve contratos com o estado do Rio, depositou ao menos US$ 1,5 milhão para um dos filhos do então presidente da Associação Internacional das Federações de Atletismo, Lamine Diack, três dias antes da votação para cidade-sede, em 2009.
O Rio foi eleito em uma disputa com Chicago, Tóquio e Madri, cidade que chegou à final com a capital fluminense. O Rio venceu com 66 votos, contra 32 da capital espanhola. O diretor de Comunicação da Rio 2016, Mário Andrada, afirmou que a eleição da “Cidade Maravilhosa” foi limpa. “O resultado final mostra uma larga diferença de votos e anula essa hipótese de compra de votos. A gente não tem a menor dúvida de que o Rio ganhou de forma limpa e justa”, disse.
Andrada disse que o comitê organizador dos Jogos Rio 2016 não foi procurado pelos investigadores franceses nenhuma vez, e que todos os documentos estão disponíveis para a apuração.
Em nota, o Comitê Olímpico Internacional (COI) também se posicionou sobre a reportagem do Le Monde. O COI disse ser parte no processo que corre na justiça francesa e afirmou que está comprometido em esclarecer a situação.
“Essa cooperação já levou ao fato de que o Sr. Lamine Diack, que era membro honorário do COI, não ocupa nenhuma função (no órgão) desde novembro de 2015. O COI vai entrar em contato com as autoridades judiciais francesas novamente para receber as informações nas quais a reportagem do Le Monde parece se basear”, disse o comitê.
