O empresário Leo De Watts, de 27 anos, vende ar coletado no interior do Reino Unido e despacha para cidades poluídas da China, como Xangai e Pequim, onde elites pagam quantias consideráveis por poucos segundos de inalação. A China enfrenta problemas crônicos de poluição atmosférica. Em 2015, pela primeira vez na história, a capital do país, Pequim, declarou alerta vermelho o mais grave em uma escala de quatro níveis por causa da poluição.
Nessas ocasiões, escolas permanecem fechadas e fábricas interrompem a produção. Há também restrições à circulação de carros e a obras ao ar livre.
“Qualquer pessoa que, por exemplo, viva perto de um lago cristalino e comece a engarrafar água e vender pode ser considerada meio maluca por seus amigos, mas é algo incrível para locais que não possuem uma grande oferta dessas coisas, e pode ser vendido com item de luxo”, disse Watts à BBC.
A China é considerada o maior poluidor do mundo, emitindo 10,5 milhões de quilotoneladas de gás carbônico por ano, segundo a Agência de Avaliação Ambiental da Holanda. No mesmo ranking, o Brasil apareceu em 10º lugar.
Cada garrafa – de 580 ml – de ar exportada por Watts custa 80 libras (cerca de R$ 450).
Para oferecer produtos com características distintas, o empresário diz coletar ar de áreas diferentes, como o interior do País de Gales e as regiões de Dorset e Somerset, na Inglaterra.
O processo de coleta é feito com jarros acoplados a redes – atividade que Watts define como “agricultura aérea”.
“O ar fresco é filtrado organicamente pela natureza. Flui entre folhas de árvores e absorve água cristalina ao passar sobre florestas, e é acariciado gentilmente ao percorrer formações de rocha mineral e paisagens de beleza intocada onde é coletado e engarrafado”, descreve o site da empresa.
O site local Dorset Echo informou que Watts já vendeu mais de 180 garrafas desde a criação do negócio, há poucas semanas.
