Mais de 100 cidades brasileiras aderiram este ano à mobilização da Hora do Planeta para incentivar a reflexão sobre como enfrentar o aquecimento global e preservar o meio ambiente. O projeto convoca pessoas, empresas e entidades públicas a apagarem as luzes durante uma hora neste sábado (25), das 20h30 às 21h30. Criado em 2007 na capital australiana, Sydney, pela organização não governamental WWF, a iniciativa está presente em mais de 7 mil cidades. No Brasil, a ação ocorre desde 2009. Alguns eventos pontuais vão marcar a data, como um passeio ciclístico em Brasília pouco antes do apagar das luzes de monumentos como o Congresso Nacional, o Museu da República e a Catedral Metropolitana.
Segundo o diretor executivo do WWF-Brasil, Maurício Voivodic, as ações deste ano priorizaram o engajamento digital. “Fizemos vídeos que foram divulgados nas redes sociais, com pessoas comuns sobre o que ainda não conseguiram fazer para melhorar o planeta e o que o podem fazer para contribuir. É um convite à reflexão” disse.
Além da conscientização individual, a campanha também busca despertar a população para o problema do consumismo. “O atual padrão de consumo também é uma questão abordada nas nossas ações. O consumismo é um tremendo problema para a sociedade e para o planeta, gerando desperdício”, alertou Voivodic. “Nestes dez anos, o balanço é muito positivo, tem tocado as pessoas e hoje é a maior campanha ambiental do mundo, é um momento para parar e pensar como podemos cuidar melhor do nosso planeta”, completou.

O WWF-Brasil desenvolve projetos em todo o país desde 1996 e integra a Rede WWF, com atuação em mais de 100 países e o apoio de cerca de 5 milhões de pessoas, incluindo associados e voluntários.
Mutirão de limpeza
Voluntários participam neste sábado do 1º Mutirão de Limpeza (Clean Up), na Praia de Copacabana, como parte das atividades da Hora do Planeta.
O projeto Clean Up é realizado pelo WWF-Brasil, em parceria com o Instituto Mar Adentro,. A coordenadora dos Programas Mata Atlântica e Marinho da ONG, Anna Carolina Lobo, disse à Agência Brasil que o objetivo da ação é despertar a atenção das pessoas para o impacto do que é consumido no dia a dia, nesse momento importante em que o planeta enfrenta mudanças climáticas. “A situação dos oceanos e, especificamente, o lixo plástico nos oceanos, é gravíssima. É muito mais do que a gente imagina”.
Segundo Anna Carolina, 95% dos resíduos plásticos são descartados no seu primeiro uso. “Só que 80% do lixo plástico que chegam aos oceanos vão por meio dos rios. Em muitos processos de tratamento de reciclagem, o microplástico está presente em tudo: na calça jeans, em cosméticos, além de sacolas biodegradáveis. Esses processos de tratamento não conseguem acabar com o microplástico”, disse. Ela destacou que esses resíduos acabam chegando aos oceanos e sendo comidos por aves, peixes e cetáceos.
A coordenadora ressaltou que a isso se soma o impacto das mudanças climáticas nos oceanos. Ela citou estudo que mostra que, até 2030, 90% dos corais do mundo perderão a cor. “Isso é gravíssimo, porque os corais do mundo são a base, o sustento da vida marinha. Está tudo relacionado. Na natureza, tudo tem uma grande relação e os oceanos, no final, estão sofrendo muitíssimo com a nossa ação humana de consumo, como descartamos, o impacto das mudanças climáticas.”
De acordo com Anna Carolina, o mutirão de limpeza da Praia de Copacabana quer chamar a atenção para toda essa problemática e conscientizar as pessoas do quanto elas também são responsáveis por trazer a solução. Os voluntários vão recolher lixo da praia e conversarão também com o público, contribuindo para a educação ambiental.
