A primeira noite de desfiles das escolas de samba do Grupo Especial do Rio de Janeiro teve política, literatura e música cantados em sambas-enredos. Alegorias grandiosas foram vistas do início ao fim do desfile, mas Salgueiro e Beija-Flor levantaram mais o público com suas torcidas numerosas. A Grande Rio causou frisson com Ivete Sangalo na Sapucaí, e a Imperatriz emocionou com a homenagem a lideranças indígenas do Xingu.
A noite também foi marcada por um incidente. Vinte pessoas foram atropeladas por um carro alegórico da escola Paraíso do Tuiuti, na Marques de Sapucaí. A Polícia Civil investiga as circunstâncias do atropelamento.
Após o atropelamento, o carro seguiu até o fim do desfile, e agentes impediram que o veículo fosse retirado do Sambódromo. A alegoria passou por uma primeira perícia na dispersão e deve ser vistoriada novamente ao longo do dia. Os policiais também vistoriaram o trecho do Sambódromo onde houve a colisão contra a grade e as cabines de transmissão.
Paraíso do Tuiuti
Marcado pelo atropelamento de mais de 20 pessoas por um de seus carros alegóricos, a Paraíso do Tuiuti fez o que pôde para não ter seu desfile abalado pelo desastre. A escola abordou o movimento antropofágico modernista e o Tropicalismo, entrando na Sapucaí com muitas cores da fauna e da flora nacionais.
O administrador Rodrigo Sodré, 37 anos, estava em cima do carro acidentado, e contou que a situação causou nervosismo. “Deu para ver o carro amassado. Deu uma angústia muito grande.” Apesar do ocorrido, ele disse confiar que a escola fez um bom desfile.
Grande Rio
Aguardada com ansiedade para estrear na Sapucaí, a cantora Ivete Sangalo chegou e saiu da avenida cercada de seguranças duas vezes. Em uma aposta arriscada, a Grande Rio trouxe a cantora na coreografia da comissão de frente, e, quando Ivete chegou à dispersão, um carro estava à espera para levá-la às pressas para a última alegoria. O plano funcionou, e o público saiu ganhando com a diva passando duas vezes pelo sambódromo.
Imperatriz
O desfile da Imperatriz Leopoldinense teve como grandes estrelas os indígenas do Xingu, cujos clamores por direitos e sustentabilidade foram amplificados por um enredo que chegou a ser criticado por setores do agronegócio. O cacique caiapó Raoni Metuktire, 86 anos, foi destaque em um carro alegórico dedicado a ele e teve a ajuda do neto Beptuk Metuktire, 22 anos, para traduzir sua mensagem de agradecimento para o português.
“Que bom que os brancos lembraram de nós, porque tem muito impacto o que vem causando na população indígena quando querem destruir nossos parques e florestas e poluir os rios”, disse o cacique.
Para Ianacula Kamayura, 61 anos, não foi surpresa que o enredo tenha incomodado o agronegócio. “Como indígenas do Xingu, ficamos muito emocionados de poder estar aqui diante dessa multidão para trazer à tona todos os nossos problemas”, disse o indígena. “O enredo fala mais do respeito, da necessidade de preservar a terra. Mas a verdade, às vezes, dói.”
Vila Isabel
A Vila Isabel contou a influência da cultura negra em ritmos que conquistaram o continente americano, como o próprio samba, o blues, o soul, o rap e o hip hop.
O carnavalesco Alex de Souza apostou na imagem de cantores consagrados e figuras que representam clássicos musicais para dar forma aos ritmos negros. Ele disse ter ficado satisfeito com o resultado, mas não viu o público tão empolgado.
“A escola fez um desfile bonito, mas vamos ver. Acho o público de domingo muito frio. Não sei se a escola não empolgou.”
Salgueiro
Com alegorias grandiosas e fantasias ricas, o Salgueiro levantou a Sapucaí com um enredo que começou no inferno e percorreu o caminho da Divina Comédia em direção ao céu.
No caminho, a escola encontrou uma avenida suja de óleo, que foi derramado nos desfiles anteriores. A presidente Regina Celi chegou a reclamar no alto-falante do Sambódromo e serragem foi usada para amenizar o problema. Estrela da escola, a rainha de bateria Viviane Araújo sentiu o chão mais escorregadio, mas contornou o problema sambando com mais atenção. “Foi meio tenso”, disse, na saída do desfile.
A passista Michele Alves, 31 anos, chamou a atenção do público por sua gravidez de cinco meses. Com um sorriso enorme na dispersão, ela contou que foi a segunda vez que desfilou grávida. “Parece que meu coração vai sair do peito, mas estou muito satisfeita e espero pelo título. É muito gostoso, por isso que voltei.”
Beija-Flor
A última escola desfilou já com o dia claro, mas contou com o apoio da torcida, que não se deixou vencer pelo cansaço depois de mais de oito horas de desfiles.
A Beija-Flor recontou a história de Iracema em um desfile com alegorias e fantasias luxuosas e coloridas, que compensaram a desvantagem de desfilar durante o dia. O samba fácil de cantar estava na ponta da língua dos integrantes da escola, e logo foi aprendido pela arquibancada.
