Canadá calcula lucros de US$ 16 bi por ano com legalização da maconha em 2018

O governo canadense legalizará a maconha a partir do dia 1º de julho de 2018, um feriado nacional “Dia do Canadá”. A medida é uma das principais promessas do primeiro-ministro Justin Trudeau.

E desde que o governo de Justin Trudeau anunciou – em abril –  a intenção de legalizar a produção, comércio e consumo de maconha para fins recreativos no Canadá a partir de 2018, o interesse pelo tema disparou. Segundo estudo da consultoria Deloite, com bases em dados de 2016, se aprovada a legalização o faturamento do setor pode chegar a US$ 16 bilhões por ano.

Com números tão expressivos, todo mundo busca uma fatia desse mercado. Essa foi a motivação do empresário Neill Dixon, organizador da primeira O’CannaBiz Conferência e Exposição.

“Quase 50 anos atrás, um premiê canadense chamado Trudeau nomeou uma comissão para pesquisar o uso recreativo de drogas”, conta. No entanto, Trudeau destacou que até que haja uma estrutura para controlar e regular a maconha, “as leis atuais se aplicam”.

Segundo os liberais, é necessário “legalizar, regularizar e restringir o acesso à maconha” para mantê-las fora do alcance de crianças e os lucros fora das mãos de criminosos.

A nova lei estipula que as províncias ficarão responsáveis pelo controle da venda, incluindo a idade mínima de acesso e o preço. Em Ottawa, será preciso ter 18 anos ou mais para poder comprar maconha, afirma a CBC.  Por outro lado, para quem quiser cultivar a planta em casa, serão permitidas até quatro mudas de cannabis por residência.

Se o Canadá, que já tem o uso medicinal da droga permitido, aprovar de fato a lei, será o primeiro país do G7 a fazer essa medida valer em todo o território nacional. Os outros países que compõem o grupo são: Estados Unidos, Japão, Alemanha, Reino Unido, França e Itália.
