Nova versão de “Negros no Espírito Santo” será lançada nesta terça (23)

negros-livro-2016-foto01A trajetória histórica dos negros nas terras capixabas é o tema da obra “Negros no Espírito Santo”, do professor e pesquisador Cléber Maciel, que será lançado pelo Arquivo Público do Estado do Espírito Santo (APEES), às 19h, no Palácio Anchieta nesta terça-feira (23). O evento acontece dentro da programação “Agosto da Cultura”, da Secretaria de Estado da Cultura (Secult). O livro, uma versão ampliada da edição original de 1994, é uma publicação da linha editorial “Coleção Canaã”, volume 22, do APEES.

Cléber Maciel afirmou – na introdução – que o seu objetivo é abordar as origens africanas, bem como a escravidão, as contribuições culturais e o racismo e, por meio desses elementos, repensar o papel que os negros podem desempenhar frente à sociedade brasileira. “Entretanto, muito mais que organizar dados, o trabalho pretende mostrar que, apesar do extermínio escravista, do massacre racista e da exploração discriminatória, os negros capixabas continuam lutando e trabalhando, construindo e enriquecendo os aspectos culturais, sociais, políticos e econômicos”.

Os professores da Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (Ufes), Leonor Araújo, e o organizador do livro, Osvaldo Martins de Oliveira, na “Apresentação à Segunda edição”, ressaltaram que a obra de Cléber Maciel traz uma maneira específica de fazer a História. “Ao abordar a memória dos africanos e descendentes no Estado, na qual o próprio autor militante e intelectual negro estava implicado, ele mostra a sua procura simbólica pela própria identidade. Nesse sentido, Maciel, e nós também, estamos comprometidos na busca de nossos destinos comuns, isto é, na construção de projetos políticos para nós e para nossas futuras gerações”, argumentaram.

Pode-se considerar que o autor estava mais interessado em uma história das lutas contra a escravidão do que na escravidão em si, assim como se preocupava com os estudos sobre a organização de ações contra o racismo. “Não estava interessado em alimentar que os integrantes da ‘Comunidade Negra’ eram ‘descendentes de escravos’, mas descendentes de reis, rainhas, guerreiros e de homens e mulheres sábios e livres que, em circunstâncias de domínios advindos por meio de guerras e armas, foram escravizados pela força das ‘companhias de comércio’, que, na maioria das vezes eram ‘companhias de guerra’ para abater e dominar sociedades africanas e comunidades de seus descendentes no Brasil, em especial no Espírito Santo” comentaram Leonor e Osvaldo.

Nesta segunda edição foram agregados novos textos prefaciais e posfácio nos quais se tem a exposição de pesquisas e reflexões recentes que atualizam os assuntos explorados como, por exemplo, a luta dos quilombos pelos direitos territoriais e culturais e os agrupamentos em torno dos direitos ao patrimônio cultural afro-brasileiro, como o jongo, caxambu, ticumbi e congo. Atuaram como colaboradores os seguintes pesquisadores: José Elias Rosa dos Santos, Milena Xilibe Batista, Gustavo Henrique Araújo Farde, Sérgio Pereira dos Santos, Andrea Bayerl Mongim, Suely Bispo e Sandro José da Silva.

Além dos textos que contextualizam os movimentos relativos à luta dos afrodescendentes no Espírito Santo nas duas últimas décadas, foram agregadas à nova edição diversas fotografias que ilustram as manifestações culturais e personagens representativos da cultura negra, incluindo-se quatro registros fotográficos sobre a visita do Presidente da África do Sul, Nelson Mandela, ao Estado em 1991, durante o governo de Albuíno Azeredo, o primeiro governador negro capixaba.

Cléber Maciel

Cleber da Silva Maciel nasceu em Cariacica em 02 de junho de 1948. Graduou-se em História pela Universidade Federal do Espírito Santo (Ufes) e, posteriormente, cursou mestrado na Universidade Estadual de Campinas (Unicamp) com a dissertação “Discriminações raciais: negros em Campinas, alguns aspectos”. Foi professor do Departamento de História da Ufes até o seu falecimento em 05 de dezembro de 1993. De acordo com o diretor geral do APEES, Cilmar Franceschetto, os resultados das pesquisas do professor Cléber Maciel continuam atuais e seus estudos, como intelectual e militante negro, são de inestimável valor para os interessados em conhecer a história dos povos africanos no Estado.
